Vietnamese and Lao ministries of public security elevate cooperative ties
VOV.VN - General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and General Vilay Lakhamphong, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Public Security of Laos, co-chaired a conference to review the implementation of the 2024 cooperation plan between the two ministries on January 12 in Hanoi.
Over the past year, the global and regional situation was influenced by many complex and unpredictable developments, which significantly impacted the socio-economic situation and the maintenance of security and order between the two countries. Under the close leadership of both ministries, the police forces of Vietnam and Laos successfully completed their tasks of safeguarding national security and maintaining public order. They effectively organized and implemented the outcomes of the 14th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Conference, with many important contents aimed at ensuring security and public order in each nation.
Notably, they effectively collaborated in combating transnational organized crimes, such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and criminal justice assistance. They also successfully organized the "Bilateral Ministerial Conference on Crime Prevention and Public Order Maintenance." Cooperation in preventing illegal immigration, combating high-tech crimes, and online fraud has also yielded positive results.
These achievements have contributed significantly to boosting both nations’ development and construction as well as to preserving and reinforcing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the people of the two nations, especially the police forces.
At the conclusion of the conference, Minister Luong Tam Quang and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Vilay Lakhamphong signed the 2025 cooperation plan between the two ministries.
The two sides concurred to concretize the 2025 cooperation program to elevate the relationship between the two ministries in line with the common perception reached by Party and State leaders of the two countries during the state visit of General Secretary To Lam (then State President) to Laos in July 2024.
Both sides will augment security cooperation, ensuring solid mutual support and protecting each other's legitimate interests, while jointly addressing increasingly diverse and complex security challenges. Additionally, the police forces of both countries need to maintain information exchange mechanisms at different levels and continue to discuss the plots, tactics, and activities of hostile forces and individuals attempting to undermine national security and public order in both nations.
The two sides will also closely cooperate in safeguarding political security, preventing subversive activities and foreign agency violations of national security, countering "peaceful evolution" activities, and verifying individuals involved in national security violations in both Vietnam and Laos. They will work together to ensure security for high-level visits between the two countries and guarantee safety for citizens living, working, and studying in each other's country.
They agreed to continue to exchange information and apprehend fugitives from one country hiding in the other, and collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to effectively carry out the agreement between the two countries on preventing human trafficking and protecting victims of trafficking.
General Vilay Lakhamphong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos is on an official visit to Vietnam from January 11-13 at the invitation of General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security of Vietnam.
