Vietnam, Singapore forge Party ties and wide-ranging cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Singapore are enhancing Party-to-Party ties and expanding cooperation in key areas such as energy, logistics, education, and youth exchange, laying a stronger foundation for political trust and long-term partnership.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on July 22 for  Chan Chun Sing, Assistant Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party (PAP) of Singapore, Coordinating Minister for Public Services, and Minister for Defence, during his official visit to Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the visit of the high-level PAP delegation led by Deputy Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing, describing it as a concrete reflection of the two Parties’ and countries’ commitment to implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established during Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Singapore in March 2025. The visit also provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss ways to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, thus contributing to greater political trust and closer ties between the two nations.

Deputy Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing sincerely thanked PM Chinh for taking the time to meet the delegation. He stated that the visit is designed to augment cooperation with Vietnam across Party, state, and people-to-people channels. He also expressed admiration for Vietnam’s recent achievements, particularly in maintaining political stability and socio-economic development. He emphasized that the two countries share similarities in strategic interests and policy priorities, as well as a foundation of trust and closeness that facilitates frank exchanges on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.

The Vietnamese Government leader hailed the results of the PAP delegation’s working sessions with Vietnamese agencies and stressed that in the context of rapid and complex regional and global developments, both countries need to reinforce political trust through regular delegation exchanges and interactions at all levels, especially senior Party and State leaders via flexible mechanisms. He also urged the swift finalization of the 2025–2030 Action Program and the expansion of cooperation in areas where both sides have strengths and potential, such as food security, renewable energy, carbon credit exchange, development of VSIP 2.0 parks, logistics infrastructure, finance, banking, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges, especially among the younger generation.

Regarding Party-to-Party cooperation, PM Chinh shared five key lessons learned by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) in leading the nation-building and defence process: steadfast adherence to national independence and socialism; a revolution that is of the people, by the people, and for the people; the combination of national strength and the spirit of the times; promotion of great national unity; and the decisive role of the Party’s sound leadership in achieving revolutionary success. He proposed that the two Parties intensify the exchange of experience in Party building, governance, socio-economic development, and regional and international matters of shared concern.

For his part, Chan Chun Sing expressed strong agreement with the PM’s proposals, including the need for the PAP and CPV to maintain regular dialogue to share leadership experience, assess emerging issues of shared interest, and examine ways to overcome common challenges. He also underlined the effective implementation of economic and investment cooperation, particularly in energy, finance, and supply chain connectivity.

He proposed both sides maintain youth exchanges, particularly among future leaders of the two Parties and nations to enhance mutual understanding and long-term connectivity. He also suggested expanding educational cooperation through student exchanges, academic partnerships, and scholarship programs. Given their shared positions on many regional and international issues, Singapore will continue to consult closely and coordinate stances with Vietnam at multilateral forums, especially ASEAN, APEC, and the United Nations.
