Vietnam ready to support Laos in organizing CLV Parliamentary Summit

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) is ready to support and share its experience with the Laos NA in successfully organising the Cambodia - Laos – Vietnam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit in Vientiane capital in early December.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue made the statement on October 5 at a reception held in Hanoi for Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang who had come to bid farewell before finishing his term in Vietnam.

The top Vietnamese legislator congratulated Ambassador Houngboungnuang on successfully completing his working term in Vietnam, adding that the diplomat and the Laotian Embassy in Vietnam have strived to act as a bridge making many important contributions to the development of relations between the two countries and the two legislators.

The Vietnamese NA supports its Laotian counterpart in successfully assuming the role of President of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2024 and organise the AIPA-45 General Assembly slated for October, 2024, NA Chairman Hue told his guest.

The Vietnamese politician went on to praise the Laotian diplomat's contributions to promoting the relationship between the two law-making bodies in an extensive, practical, and effective manner, especially activities commemorating the Vietnam - Laos and Laos - Vietnam Years of Solidarity and Friendship during 2022.

The two legislatures regularly maintain exchanges of high-level delegations at all levels, as well as exchanging experience in institutional building and socio-economic development in a bid to ensure national defence and security.

During the course of numerous meetings, both nations’ top legislators held detailed discussions aimed at jointly resolving a number of problems and issues related to co-operation projects between the two countries.

The two law-making bodies have closely worked together and offered mutual support at both regional and international inter-Parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

In response, Ambassador Houngboungnuang expressed his joy that the Vietnamese side has enjoyed rapid economic and social development, while maintaining security and defence associated with boosting economic growth and improving people’s lives. Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest economic growth in the world, he added.

The Ambassador assessed that the Vietnamese position and role in the international arena is increasingly enhanced, with the nation’s foreign direct investment attraction ranking first among ASEAN member states and recognised the country’s success in this role of 37th ASEAN Chairmanship in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam successfully fulfilled its term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020 to 2021 term.

Participating in UN peacekeeping operations in very difficult areas has served to affirm that the country is a responsible member of the international community.

The diplomat added that the achievements which the Vietnamese side has recorded recently have contributed to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, thereby creating many advantages for national development.

He expressed his confidence that the nation will continue to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, especially the goal that by 2045, which marks the 100th anniversary of the country's founding, Vietnam will become a developed and high-income country, he continued.

As part of the occasion, through Ambassador Houngboungnuang, NA Chairman Hue sent greetings and wishes of health to General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and Chairman of the Laos NA Saysomphone Phomvihane, along with other Party and State leaders of Laos.
