Vietnam ramps up naval co-operation with Indonesia

VOV.VN - Rear Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy, held phone talks on June 8 with Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Yudo Margono.

During the course of their discussion, Admiral Nghiem highlighted the increasing naval co-operation of both sides, stating that their bilateral naval consultation mechanism, which is alternately hosted by the two sides, has proved to be highly effective.

He went on to express his great appreciation for the participation and practical opinions delivered by the Indonesian Navy delegation delivered during the course of a virtual conference of the Working Group of the ASEAN Navy Training Experience Exchange Programme (ANTEEP). This event was held by the Vietnam People’s Navy in April this year.

In response, Admiral Margono stated that the Indonesian Navy has pledged to work closely with Vietnam to build and maintain a peaceful and stable sea border sea between the two countries, as well as creating favourable conditions for their fishermen to operate without violating their respective waters.

Both officials therefore consented to promoting the necessary steps to conduct a joint training standard procedure in order to standardise the process and improve co-ordination between the two navies in order to deal with common maritime security challenges.
