Vietnam - Philippines strategic partnership sees positive developments

VOV.VN - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and his Philippine counterpart Enrique Manalo expressed their delight at the positive developments in the strategic partnership between the two countries at their meeting in Phnom Penh on November 9.

The meeting was held within the framework of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Cambodia and attendance at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings.

The two sides agreed on a number of measures to further deepen the relationship in a deeper and substantive manner in the coming time, with a focus on intensifying the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones.

They also consented to work closely to ensure the success of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos' visit to Vietnam.

On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son conveyed a message from National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue thanking Philippine Senate President Juan Miguel F. Zubiri for extending an official invitation to visit the Philippines at the end of this November.

The two ministers underlined the need to resume the existing cooperation mechanisms between the two sides, which were interrupted recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in which the two countries should soon convene the 10th Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation.

They consented to make greater efforts to effectively implement signed bilateral agreements, including the Action Program on carrying out the Vietnam - Philippines strategic partnership for the 2019 – 2024 period, while continuing to take measures to promote trade exchange and investment between the two countries, and limiting the imposition of trade barriers on their goods.

FM Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam's readiness to continue supplying rice to the Philippines and contribute to the Philippine Government's efforts to ensure food security.

Regarding maritime cooperation, the two sides agreed that this is an area that needs to be strengthened. In that spirit, they will soon hold the Sea and Ocean Cooperation Working Group Meeting.

They will share the practical need to expand cooperation in potential fields such as climate change response, green growth, digital transformation, e-commerce, tourism, education and training.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two sides said that amid the regional and world situation facing many complicated and unpredictable changes, it is necessary to increase exchanges and consultations, and jointly continue to reinforce solidarity strength and central role of ASEAN in the regional architecture.
