This Strategic Partnership Dialogue was held after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sharing their views on the context of the world and regional situation continuing to develop in a complex and rapidly changing manner, with many uncertain and unpredictable factors, the two sides agreed to continue to closely co-ordinate and support each other at international and regional forums such as the UN, ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, as well as on international issues of mutual concern, thereby contributing to maintaining peace, stability, co-operation, and development in the region and around the world.
Deputy Minister Vu affirmed that Vietnam consistently implements a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multi-lateralisation, and diversification of international relations, being a friend, a reliable partner, as well as an active and responsible member of the international community. He also emphasised that Japan is one of the Vietnamese side’s leading and long-term important partners, while supporting Japan to further enhance its role in international and regional issues.
The Vietnamese diplomat therefore proposed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan support and actively participate in international events hosted by Vietnam in 2025, including the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit and the second ASEAN Future Forum.
Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Funakoshi affirmed that Vietnam holds an important position in his nation’s foreign policy in the region and the world, while hoping that Vietnam will support and actively engage in the success of the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
As part of this occasion, Deputy Minister Vu conveyed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's invitation to visit Vietnam to Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son's invitation to visit Vietnam and co-chair the 13th meeting of the Vietnam - Japan Cooperation Committee in 2025 to Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi.
