Vietnam aspires to bolster legal and judicial cooperation with Malaysia

He also reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of attaching importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and accelerating its effective implementation.

Welcoming Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and his delegation, who are on a working visit to Vietnam and holding talks with the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam, the top Vietnamese legislator said the visit comes as the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries continues to grow, with relations becoming increasingly close, trusted and effective.

Congratulating Malaysia on its successful ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, the NA leader recalled his official visit to the country in September that year to attend the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46) and said he was impressed by Malaysia's development.

He expressed confidence that Malaysia will successfully implement its economic policies to promote sustainable, inclusive and equitable development, improve people's quality of life, advance the green economy, and achieve its goal of becoming one of Asia's leading economies and a high-income nation.

Reaffirming Vietnam's consistent policy of placing importance on its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Malaysia, Tran Thanh Man said the two countries enjoy close and trusted political ties, maintained through regular high-level exchanges and contacts via Party, State, Government and parliamentary channels. Bilateral cooperation mechanisms have continued to operate effectively, while people-to-people exchanges have continued to expand.

Economic cooperation is a bright spot of bilateral ties, with two-way trade reaching US$16.3 billion in 2025. During the five-month period of 2026, bilateral trade totaled US$8.8 billion, up 40% from the same period in 2025. Malaysia is currently ASEAN's third-largest investor in Vietnam and ranks 10th among 154 countries and territories investing in the country, with 804 active projects worth a combined US$14.8 billion.

Vietnam is stepping up institutional development, improving the effectiveness of law enforcement and advancing judicial reform. In this process, judicial bodies, including the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam, play an important role in upholding the rule of law and protecting the interests of the State and the public, as well as the lawful rights and interests of organizations and individuals.

The host leader hailed  the increasingly close cooperation between the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam and the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia in sharing professional experience, protecting justice and safeguarding citizens' rights.

He said the cooperation has helped improve the effectiveness of crime prevention and control, help safeguard security, and boost socio-economic development in both countries. He added that the two sides will  continue to support one another and coordinate closely at multilateral forums and cooperation mechanisms.

On this occasion, the NA Chairman proposed that the two sides increase exchanges of delegations at all levels and effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms to further consolidate strategic trust.

He also expressed the hope that the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia will support the adoption of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Programme (2026-2030), beef up cooperation in the halal industry, and advance the Legal Cooperation Programme (2027-2028).

Man also suggested maintaining regular forums and conferences to share professional experience between the two countries' legal and judicial agencies. He called for continued close coordination within ASEAN and support for a substantive, effective Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) in line with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Expressing his appreciation for the reception, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said Malaysia highly values the long-standing friendship between the two nations. As fellow ASEAN members, Vietnam and Malaysia share strong bonds of mutual trust as well as a common aspiration for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia maintains close cooperation with the legislature, particularly in lawmaking, legal advisory work and ensuring that legislation is consistent with the Federal Constitution, Mokhtar told his host.

Praising the important role of Vietnam's National Assembly in promoting public governance and strengthening the rule of law, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to working closely with Vietnam to achieve shared benefits, particularly in legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries. He expressed confidence that the visit will contribute to greater mutual understanding and stronger cooperation between the two countries and their people.
