US pledges to step up all-around cooperation with Vietnam

VOV.VN - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has emphasized his country's commitment to bolstering cooperation with Vietnam across multiple fields, especially trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, and climate change response.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on April 15 hosted a reception for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during which the former welcomed the latter’s first official visit to Vietnam in the capacity of US Secretary of State, while highlighting the significance of the visit as it took place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

The Party chief welcomed the outcomes of the US Secretary of State's working sessions in Vietnam, and hailed the strong and comprehensive development of the two countries' relations, while affirming that important foundations for the development of the bilateral relationship are to respect each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole.

Trong highly appreciated the good results of the successful phone call with US President Joe Biden held on March 29, 2023, reiterating the two leaders' exchange of major orientations for bilateral ties, especially high-level meetings and exchanges to enhance understanding and continue to expand cooperation in the fields of trade - investment, science - technology, education - training and other areas.

He said that the positive results in the relations between the two countries over the past time serve as the basis for them to continue to take their relationship to new heights for the benefit of the two peoples, and for peace and stability regionally and globally.

For his part, Antony Blinken conveyed President Biden's greetings to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, adding that his nation applauded the success of the phone call between the two leaders.

He also shared his assessment of the comprehensive and substantive development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership over the years, and exchanged contents of working sessions during his visit to Vietnam.

Blinken emphasized the basis and principles in the Vietnam-US relationship as stated and confirmed by the Party General Secretary in the phone conversation, reaffirming that the US attaches importance to relations with Vietnam and wishes to bring relationships to new heights.

The Secretary of State  emphasized that the US backs the central role of ASEAN and desires to adopt ASEAN's mechanisms and frameworks to promote the resolution of issues of common concern among countries in the region.

The Vietnamese Party leader welcomed the US support for the common concern of Vietnam and ASEAN member states on regional and international issues.

On behalf of President Joe Biden, Blinken reiterated the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the US.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong once again thanked, suggested relevant agencies to arrange the trip at an appropriate time and reiterated the invitation for President Joe Biden to visit Vietnam.

The US diplomat reaffirmed President Joe Biden's wish to visit Vietnam soon.

On the same day, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung received the visiting US Secretary of State.

During the reception, both sides discussed orientations and measures to promote the positive results of the two countries' relations over the past time, and to carry out the results of the phone call held on March 29 between Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden as well as the outcomes of the US Secretary of State's visit to Vietnam.
