Top Vietnamese legislator confident of stronger Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership

VOV.VN - On the basis of sound political relations and mutual trust, Vietnam and Japan can promote their extensive strategic partnership in a more substantive and efficient manner in the time ahead.

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue made the statement during a reception in Hanoi on May 1 for Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Kishida Fumio, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from April 30 to May 1.

At the reception, the top Vietnamese legislator pledged his best efforts to strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two legislative bodies, especially relevant agencies, and maintain high-level visits at all levels.

The National Assembly of Vietnam will do its best to enhance connectivity between the two economies on all three pillars: development strategy, production and infrastructure capacity, and the training of human resources.

The Vietnamese NA will also fine-tune institutions in a bid to create all favorable conditions in terms of the business investment environment for domestic and foreign investors, including Japan - a top important trading partner of Vietnam. Vietnam stays ready to remove barriers to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries practically and effectively, Hue told his guest.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said he desires Japan to share cooperation experience in connecting East-West infrastructure between Vietnam and Laos and other ASEAN member states.

He hoped that Japan would continue to exchange and train senior officials, beef up cooperation on labor, and jointly work on removing difficulties in major investment projects.

For his part, PM Kishida Fumio affirmed that he places great importance on strengthening cooperative ties between the two legislatures and exchanging parliamentarians. He shared that after 25 years serving as a member of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, he has always made great efforts to push up cooperation between the two law-making bodies.

During the meeting, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and PM Kishida Fumio discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern. The two leaders agreed to continue working closely and effectively at regional and international multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) to contribute to maintaining peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region and responding to non-traditional security challenges.

The two sides pledged to strengthen coordination to maintain peace and stability in the region, while reaffirming the importance of ensuring peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

They underlined the need to accelerate the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, without the use of force or the threat of force, seriously comply with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in activities at sea.

It is imperative to respect diplomatic and legal processes, fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), soon complete a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, and UNCLOS 1982, they went on to emphasize.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the Vietnamese NA leader reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance on respecting fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, especially the principle of respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, the legitimate rights and interests of each nation.

Vietnam calls on parties to persistently promote dialogue and negotiation to find a lasting peaceful solution, while taking into account each other's legitimate interests, and respecting each other in international relations. The nation has expressed its comprehensive stance on humanitarian issues and is willing to make active contributions to humanitarian relief activities, diplomatic processes, dialogues and negotiations, Hue said.

Hue said he hopes that both nations Japan will continue to beef up bilateral cooperation as well as Japan - ASEAN relations on the basis of promoting ASEAN's central role in regional issues.

On this occasion, through Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue cordially invited Japanese President of the House of Councillors Santo Akiko and Speaker of the House of Representatives Hosoda Hiroyuki to visit Vietnam.
