VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong handed over appointment decisions on October 21 regarding Vietnamese Ambassadors to foreign countries for the 2020 to 2023 term and received various Ambassadors and Heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

The appointments include 31 ambassadors, consulates generals, and representatives of the nation in 42 countries and international organisations across the globe. General Secretary Trong offered his congratulations to the freshly-accredited diplomats while going on to stress that this represents both a great honour and heavy responsibility, with each individual being entrusted by the Party, State, and people.

The Party leader underlined the need for Vietnamese diplomats to competently conduct diplomatic activities across multiple fields such as politics, economics, and culture both multilaterally and bilaterally, therefore fulfilling the country’s foreign affair aims while simultaneously promoting Vietnamese interests.

He also noted that it is necessary to thoroughly grasp and consistently implement a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralisation in terms of foreign relations, in addition to being a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community.

Analysing some of the difficulties and challenges facing the nation, General Secretary Trong asked each of the ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative offices overseas to pay close attention to reforming working methods. This should be done order to benefit the country’s sustainable development, maintain national defence and security, and effectively implement resolutions and directives regarding external relations and international integration of the Party and State.

Furthermore, he also proposed utilising the support of international friends for the purpose of national construction and defence efforts, along with focusing on research and analysis of the current situation to devise solutions for the Party and State to boost the country’s external relations.

On behalf of the ambassadors, Head of overseas Vietnamese representatives and Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Minh Khoi pledged all-out efforts to fulfill the tasks entrusted by the Party, State, and people.
