Thua Thien-Hue and Attapeu province of Laos step up co-operation
VOV.VN - Linkages between the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and Attapeu province of Laos has produced practical results across various fields.
Le Truong Luu, secretary of the Thua Thien - Hue provincial Party Committee, made the statement on March 27 during a working session held with a Lao delegation led by Let Xaynhaphon, secretary of the Attapeu Party Committee and Governor of the province.
Both sides informed each other of their various local socio-economic developments, administration and Party building work, as well as co-operation results over recent times.
They also took time to discuss co-operation opportunities moving forward, as well as affirming that the two sides will further work together in a bid to finalise a draft co-operation agreement for the 2023 to 2027 period.
The two sides are set to effectively implement an agreement aimed at both managing and protecting the shared border, prevent and combat all kinds of cross-border crimes, focus on promoting and diversifying trade promotion activities and export product structure, as well as continuing to organise cultural and art exchange activities.
Luu called on the administration of the Laotian province to continue offering favourable conditions for workers of Thua Thien - Hue province to allow them to conduct and live in the province based on strictly implementing the legal regulations of the two countries.
The Lao official therefore suggested that the two sides seeks to bolster ties in the fields of education, health, culture, tourism, agriculture, trade, and investment moving forward. He also expressed his hope that Vietnamese provincial leaders, departments, and agencies, especially businesses, visit Attapeu and seek potential business opportunities in the Laotian locality.
For years, Thua Thien - Hue province has granted scholarships for students from Attapeu. To date, a total of 163 students from Attapeu province have received scholarships and studied in colleges and universities in Thua Thien-Hue.
The Vietnamese locality also supported the Laotian province in the medical sector and donated US$10,000 to Attapeu in order to overcome the consequences caused by the broken dam at a hydroelectric plant.
