PM to attend ASEAN-US Special Summit, visit US

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is set to lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit in Washington DC to mark the occasion of the 45th anniversary of bilateral dialogue relations, as well as taking a working visit to the US.

The visit comes following an invitation made by US President Joe Biden.

This information was revealed by Le Thi Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the foreign ministry's regular press briefing held on April 21.

PM Chinh will also used the occasion to meet with UN officials.

According to Hang, the nation is actively preparing for PM Chinh's attendance at the ASEAN-US Special Summit, as well as his working visit to the US.

Preparations ahead of the ASEAN-US Special Summit is underway in accordance with ASEAN's order and procedures. Indeed, the parties are making every effort to complete preparation work for the important event, with both ASEAN and the US looking forward to the successful organization of this special summit, the official said.

27 years on since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the US, great strides have been made on the basis of mutual benefits, respect for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well each other's political institutions, the spokesperson stated.

"On that basis, we are ready to cooperate with the administration of President Biden to further promote the two countries' relations in an effective and sustainable manner for peace and stability, co-operation, and development in the region as well as the world as a whole,” Hang added.
