PM Phuc to attend virtual 27th APEC Summit

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is due to attend the 27th summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum which will be held via an online platform on November 20.

The attendance of PM Phuc at the event will come about following an invitation sent by Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The APEC features 21 member economies and is the leading economic co-operation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region. Indeed, the forum offers a place for major economic, trading, and technological centres globally to converge, making up 39% of the global population, contributing 59% to GDP, and over 49% to global trade.

Vietnam first became an official member of the APEC in November, 1998, with the country being among the few to have hosted APEC summits on two separate occasions, first in 2006 and then again in 2017.

The APEC forum is a gathering of various strategic and comprehensive partners, including the nation’s most important economic and trading partners which account for 75% of Vietnamese export turnover, 78% of total direct investment, and 79% of international tourists to the country.

Furthermore, 14 out of the 16 free trade agreements (FTAs) either signed or in the process of being negotiating by the nation concerns a total of 17 APEC members.
