PM Chinh arrives in UK for working visit and COP26

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh touched down at Prestwick airport on October 31 morning (local time), beginning his trip for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and a working visit to the UK at the invitation of his counterpart Boris Johnson.

During the visit, PM Chinh is scheduled to have a meeting with the First Minister of Scotland , attend a launching ceremony of a direct route between Vietnam and the UK and a signing ceremony to announce Bamboo Airways' general agent, and meet with leaders of the University of Liverpool. This is along with witnessing a ceremony to hand over co-operation agreements between agencies and businesses from both sides.

The Vietnamese Government chief will also meet the Vietnamese community in the UK and attended a donation ceremony to support Vietnam in the fight against COVID-19.

He is scheduled to give a keynote speech at the COP26 conference and have a range of bilateral meetings with leaders of international organisations and funds, and others.

Chinh will participate in a range of activities with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, give a speech at an event to announce the commitment to reduce global methane emissions co-chaired by US President Joe Biden and President of the European Commission  Ursula von de Leyen.

The Government leader is set to hold bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, UK Prince Charles and a number of other leaders.

The PM’s visit to the UK will help consolidate the political trusts and further deepen all-around cooperation, thus making the bilateral relations become more practical and effective.

The Vietnam-UK strategic partnership have grown steadily in recent years. Despite facing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, both nations have still maintained the exchange of high-level delegations and meetings.

Vietnam ranks 38th among the 241 trade partners of and 25th among the 233 countries exporting to the UK, which is the third largest European trade partner of the Southeast Asian nation.
