Official receives new Indian Ambassador to Vietnam

Politburo member and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) Nguyen Xuan Thang hosted a reception in Hanoi on December 13 for new Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya.

Thang, who is also Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, said the ambassador's tenure begins as the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties amid the growing comprehensive strategic partnership.

Thang said the HCMA advocates expanding theoretical exchanges, education and training with international partners, including India – one of its leading partners. In September 2014, the HCMA established the Indian Studies Centre which has been working closely with the Indian Embassy in Vietnam to carry out scientific studies regarding mid- and long-term issues related to the two countries' cooperative relations.

He asked the ambassador and the Indian Embassy to continue this work, and in the immediate future, partner with the Vietnam-India Friendship Association to hold a scientific symposium on bilateral economic exchanges and workshops next year.

Thang hoped that the ambassador and the embassy will serve as a bridge to help the HCMA invite Indian experts and scholars to Vietnam for strategic personnel planning training courses.

The HCMA is interested in international experience in national building so this activity needs to be stepped up, he said.
Ambassador Arya, for his part, said before taking up duty in Vietnam, he met the Indian President and Prime Minister who showed their special sentiment for Vietnam and appreciation for strengthening cooperation with the country. When in Vietnam, he also received similar messages from Vietnamese leaders.
He vowed to make effective contributions to boost the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, and between the HCMA and Indian partners.
