Hanoi, Phnom Penh desire stronger all-around cooperation

VOV.VN - Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung received Governor of Cambodia’s Phnom Penh capital Khuong Sreng on September 5.

The municipal affirmed that Hanoi is keen to join Phnom Penh in bolstering comprehensive co-operation to help further foster ties of traditional friendship for the sake of both peoples and the two respective capital cities.

He hailed the outcomes of talks between Governor Sreng and Tran Sy Thanh, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, adding that he believes orientations for the cities’ co-operation identified at the talks will help build on existing achievements. This is along with expanding ties to new areas and tapping into the potential opportunities that exist for stronger co-operation.
Dung suggested that both capitals strive to maintain close ties, whilst sharing information and experience, along with offering mutual assistance in all aspects.

Hanoi will always offer favourable conditions for agencies and investors of both sides to exchange experience and implement joint programmes and projects to generate practical benefits for their citizens. This will contribute to the “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” between Vietnam and Cambodia, he noted.

In response, Govenor Sreng shared the host’s view on the need to intensify linkages between the two countries and their respective capitals.

He outlined that both sides should keep augmenting bilateral ties in a comprehensive manner to help nurture relations between the two countries.

This comes after Thanh and Governor Sreng chaired talks between the two capitals’ delegations. Thanh affirmed Hanoi’s readiness to boost  ties with Phnom Penh in feasible fields.

In line with this, he put forth four major co-operation directions, namely increasing high-level mutual visits and applying high technology to boost effectiveness. This includes enhancing trade - investment links and creating conditions for businesses to intensify exchanges, considering specialised partnerships in areas such as healthcare, urban management, and waste treatment, along with facilitating tourism co-operation.

Agreeing with these recommendations, Governor Sreng also suggested several potential areas for co-operation, including strengthening mutual visits, personnel training, and experiencing sharing in urban management. This is along with the settlement of challenges facing the cities, as well as promoting ties in multiple areas, especially socio-economic affairs.
