Hanoi and Vientiane eye stronger ties
VOV.VN - A delegation of Hanoi led by Tran Sy Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, held separate meetings with leaders of the Lao capital of Vientiane.
The Hanoi delegation was on a working visit to Laos from September 17 to September 19 for the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) and the ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) 2024, as well as a working visit to Vientiane.
Receiving the Hanoi delegation, Anouphap Tounalom, secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Vientiane, affirmed that the delegation's visit would further contribute to reinforcing the great friendship, special solidarity, and all-around ties that exists between the two capitals, as well as the two countries in general.
The Lao official stated that the visit is of great significance as the Vientiane Party Committee is focusing on carrying out the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 17th Party Congress of the capital city.
He briefed the guests on the outstanding results recorded in the city’s Party organisation-related activities, political, socio-economic development, and the implementation of a national programme dealing with economic and financial issues which seek to enhance industrial production and handicrafts, generate greater revenue, boost domestic production, as well as improve the quality of goods.
He therefore expressed his hope in the two sides building a more substantive co-operation moving towards a comprehensive collaborative relationship, which in turn can serve as a model in locality-to-locality links between Laos and Vietnam.
Thanh highlighted the two capital’s relationship and the constant development recorded, saying that the Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation between the Party Committees and administrations of Hanoi and Vientiane for the 2022 to 2025 period has been implemented effectively with their nine specialised agencies engaging in cooperation and exchanges.
The municipal leader stated that Vietnam in general, and Hanoi in particular, is always keen to ramp up ties with the Party and State of Laos, as well as the capital Vientiane, across multiple fields.
Hanoi will therefore continue to pay attention to and give priority to augmenting linkages with Vientiane as a contribution to the two capitals' development.
The Hanoi delegation also had a meeting with its Vientiane counterpart and Mayor of Vientiane Atsaphangthong Siphandone, during which they informed each other about the socio-economic development of the two capitals and took time to exchange their respective experiences in building and developing Hanoi and Vientiane.
