Foreign ministry urged to optimise opportunities for national development

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has requested that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively offer advice to the Party and State regarding external policies, as well as suitable measures aimed at optimising opportunities and advantages for national development and defence.

During a working session held with its leaders on January 31 regarding foreign relations work in the year ahead, the Deputy PM applauded the various efforts and achievements of the sector over recent times, particularly as it has contributed to the country deepening its relationship with partners, especially strategic and comprehensive partners, traditional friends, and other important partners. This has served to boost the country’s socio-economic development whilst promoting the country’s position and reputation.

He therefore asked the sector to continue to follow the external policy adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s direction at the national foreign relations conference back in 2021, with a specific focus on maintaining peace and stability, serving national socio-economic development, and enhancing the country’s reputation.

The Foreign Ministry should continue to promote extensive, in-depth, and comprehensive international integration, firmly consolidating border peace, stability, friendship, and development. This should be done whilst simultaneously optimising favourable international factors, outside resources, as well as signed international agreements in order to serve the rapid and sustainable growth of the country, the Deputy PM instructed.

Deputy PM Quang hailed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ efforts to build a strategy on the building and development of the sector until 2030, asking the Ministry to pay greater attention to Party building and human resources development.

A report delivered by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son highlighted that last year the sector rolled out comprehensive measures in a bid to effectively carry out external relations tasks in both multilateral and bilateral aspects. This covers all fields, such as economic and cultural diplomacy, border, overseas Vietnamese affairs, external information, and citizen protection.

The sector renovated its mindset and operations for the purpose of higher efficiency, while staying attached to the Party’s external policy and implementing strategies, programmes, and projects regarding external relations, he added.
