Vietnam, Russia boost security cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Investigative Committee of Russia in Hanoi on March 16.

The MoU was inked during the ongoing Vietnam visit by Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev who witnessed the signing ceremony alongside Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam.

During their earlier talks, To Lam and Nikolai Patrushev expressed their elation at the fine development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia over the years in all areas, from diplomacy, security, and national defense to economics, trade, investment, science, and education.

They said they believe that bilateral relations, including security and national defense cooperation between the two countries, will continue to be further strengthened in the coming time.

Minister To Lam spoke highly of Russia’s constant, steady development and its increasing role and prestige globally under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, thus contributing to preventing conflicts and maintaining peace, stability and development in regions around the world, including Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Congratulating Russia on its success in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister voiced Vietnam’s desires to promote cooperation with Russia in the field of human security in the context of the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in epidemic prevention and control, and vaccine research and manufacturing.

He noted that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Russia’s law enforcement agencies have carried out many cooperation activities in various areas and achieved encouraging results.

With regard to crime prevention, both sides have exchanged information, shared experience, and coordinated investigation, verification, and extradition of criminals related to citizens of the two countries. They have worked closely to combat various types of crime, especially high-tech crime, drug crime, human trafficking.

Minister To Lam proposed that the two sides continue to effectively implement signed between the two countries, especially a cooperation agreement on international information security.

Both host and guest exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Nikolai Patrushev is in Hanoi for a visit to Vietnam. He transferred a batch of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine as donation from President V. Putin to Vietnam.
