Steadfast in overcoming global challenges

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, emphasised that the draft report comprehensively reflects the major challenges facing the country during the recent term. According to him, it is the Party’s firm and consistent leadership that has enabled Vietnam to navigate five major groups of global challenges.

The first challenge was the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented global shock. Under the Party’s direction, Vietnam responded flexibly, controlled the pandemic effectively and rapidly restored socio-economic stability.

Amid geopolitical conflicts and strategic tensions worldwide, including the Russia–Ukraine conflict, US–China competition and Middle East instability, Vietnam remained steadfast in its independent and self-reliant foreign policy, maintaining stability while enhancing its international standing.

The rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and artificial intelligence posed both opportunities and risks. The Party has stressed the need for a proactive technological development strategy and for safeguarding ideological foundations in cyberspace.

Global inflation and post-pandemic economic uncertainty also presented severe challenges, yet Vietnam continued to maintain macroeconomic stability and ensure social security - clear evidence of the Party’s effective governance.

Climate change, an increasingly severe global issue, required adaptive policies linking economic development with environmental protection, green growth and energy security.

Judging from these assessments, Associate Professor Dr. Sơn affirmed that the draft Political Report “demonstrates the Party’s steadfast resolve, strategic vision and leadership capacity in upholding national independence, sovereignty and sustainable development”.

Developing theory as a firm ideological foundation

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thang Loi, Editor-in-Chief of the Political Theory Journal, highlighted theoretical development as one of the most notable new points in the draft document. The Party has consistently attached importance to combining theoretical research with practical review, drawing valuable lessons to guide leadership in both the present and the future.

According to him, the five lessons learned, presented in both the draft Political Report and the summary of 40 years of Đổi mới (Renovation), showcase significant advances in theoretical thinking, particularly the lesson on steadfastly pursuing the renewal path and creatively developing Marxism–Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought.

He particularly emphasised the lesson that “development creates stability, and stability ensures sustainable development,” which captures the dialectical relationship between development and stability drawn from four decades of reform.

The scholar noted that Vietnam’s comprehensive stability amid global turbulence has become a form of “competitive advantage” and “soft power,” strengthening international confidence in the country.

Proposals to improve the documents

Dr. Loi also made several suggestions to refine the draft. He suggested avoiding overlapping content between the Political Report and the 40-year Renovation summary, assigning clear thematic titles to each lesson learned for coherence, and moving some theoretical content to the 40-year summary while adding new orientations for theoretical research for the 2026–2030 period.

He affirmed that the five lessons derived from 40 years of Renovation represent a valuable synthesis of theory and practice, helping to strengthen the ideological foundation and reaffirm the Party’s stature, resolve and intellect in the new development phase.

The experts’ contributions show that the draft documents for the 14th National Party Congress not only reflect the realities of national development but also embody the Party’s strategic vision and steadfast commitment to national independence and socialism. They serve as clear evidence of the resolve, intellect and leadership capacity of the Communist Party of Vietnam - a Party that consistently renews itself, stands firm in the face of global challenges and leads the nation toward sustainable development in an era of deep international integration.
