VOV.VN - A State-level memorial ceremony for former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong got underway in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, his home town, on the morning of February 22.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee President Tran Thanh Man, along with other senior officials.
Delivering a eulogy, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh highlighted Trong’s revolutionary life and the significant contributions he made to the nation during his lifetime.
Deputy PM Minh noted that Trong remained a loyal and exemplary Communist Party member, showing qualities such as integrity, fairness, and compassion throughout his life. He was a talented, virtuous, gentle, and simple leader who wholeheartedly devoted himself to the nation.
“In each period of the nation’s liberation struggle, as well as national construction and development, he left many valuable lessons for the next generations to study and follow,” Deputy PM Minh stressed.
former Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong passed away on February 19 in Ben Tre province at the age of 79 after a period of battling a serious illness. He originally joined the revolution in January, 1960, and became a member of the Party on October 25, 1964.
During his career, Trong was an alternate member of the sixth-tenure Party Central Committee, a member of the Party Central Committee in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th tenures, Secretary of the Party Central Committee in the ninth and 10th tenures, a Politburo member in the 10th tenure, and a deputy of the eighth and 11th National Assembly. In addition, he was also former Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Internal Affairs Commission and former Deputy PM.
Following the conclusion of the memorial service, Trong’s casket was transported to his final resting place at the provincial War Martyrs Cemetery.
