PM requests double-digit growth for Red River Delta

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasized the necessity for the Red River Delta to achieve double-digit growth in the coming period, in an effort to lead Vietnam into a new era of prosperity and modernization.

“If the Red River Delta cannot achieve double-digit growth, which region can? To reach this target, what conditions are necessary?” said Chinh, while presiding over the fifth meeting of the Red River Delta Region Coordination Council in Hanoi on January 14.

“We must act with high determination, significant effort, and decisive execution. Tasks must be completed one at a time, focusing on key priorities,” stated the PM.

The Government leader, who is also the head of the Red River Delta Region Coordination Council, highlighted the urgency of accelerating growth, noting that Vietnam’s GDP per capita must increase significantly to catch up with developed economies, where the average income is approximately US$13,800 per year.

Vietnam recorded GDP growth rate of 7.09% in 2024 and its GDP per capita rose to US$4,700. With the current growth rate, it will take Vietnam two decades to reach the US$13,800 benchmark, while global income standards will continue to rise, he warned.

To address these challenges, the Prime Minister requested close cooperation between the central government and local administrations, enhanced connectivity to prevent fragmentation, and the formulation of a roadmap and actionable plans to achieve breakthroughs in 2025, deemed a critical year for accelerated progress.

“With the Party’s directives, the Government’s consensus, the National Assembly’s support, and the people’s aspirations, we must move forward boldly. There is no room for retreat,” he stressed.

The meeting summarized the Council’s activities in 2024 and outlined the tasks for 2025. It also announced the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital for 2021–2030, with a vision extending to 2050.

The meeting was attended by the leaders of various ministries and agencies, and leaders of 11 Red River Delta localities, including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, and Ninh Binh.

Delegates reviewed achievements and shortcomings since the fourth meeting, analyzed underlying causes and drew lessons to overcome limitations and obstacles, and identified and replicated successful models while resolving outstanding issues.
