PM calls for joint effort to help disaster-hit residents in central region
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested mobilising all resources, including from the community and businesses, to help people in the central region restore production and stabilise their lives after recent storms and floods.
The PM made the request while chairing an online conference in Hanoi on November 13, seeking to overcome the consequences of recent natural disasters. The conference was connected online to central provinces and cities which were hard hit by subsequent typhoons and flooding.
The Government leader asked local authorities to urgently restore basic infrastructure services such as electricity, clean water, transportation, and telecommunications. He also urged a thorough review and mobilisation of all means to provide relief to households facing food shortages and to evacuate people to safe areas. Rice distribution was required to be implemented immediately on November 14.
In addition, the Prime Minister called on businesses and philanthropists to contribute humanitarian aid, upholding the traditional of mutual assistance between the haves and have-nots.
Preliminary reports from the localities show that the recent natural disasters caused severe damage from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, resulting in 90 deaths and missing persons, 273 injuries, nearly 1,900 houses collapsed, and over 227,000 houses damaged or roof-stripped, with losses exceeding VND30 trillion, affecting 0.2–0.4% of economic growth.
The Prime Minister commended the decisive efforts of the military and police forces and expressed gratitude to businesses and philanthropists who shared the difficulties with the people of central Vietnam.
For immediate solutions, the Prime Minister requested Party committees, local authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, political-social organisations, as well as core forces such as the military, police, and health sector, to continue supporting families of those who died or went missing and to stabilise people’s lives.
He also underscored the need to restructure housing to avoid dangerous areas, and to provide assistance to repair collapsed or roof-damaged houses. Relevant agencies were instructed to quickly restore infrastructure, support businesses in stabilising production, and prevent disruptions to supply chains and contracts with foreign partners.
Relevant ministries and localities were asked to ensure sufficient supply of essential goods such as food, fuel, water, and construction materials, and to implement financial and insurance measures to support people and businesses in recovering production, including debt deferrals and restructuring when necessary.
