Party leader To Lam requests hastening digital transformation among businesses
VOV.VN - Digital transformation is not just an opportunity but also a responsibility for every business, Party General Secretary To Lam said at the sixth National Forum on Digital Enterprises Development in Hanoi on January 15.
Addressing delegates in presence, To Lam expressed his delight at the robust progress of Vietnam’s digital technology industry in recent years, saying the digital startup ecosystem is growing stronger, and the digital technology industry has become one of the country’s key economic sectors, making significant contributions to economic growth and sustainable development.
He commended the local digital technology business community for their relentless efforts and remarkable achievements in applying new technologies, creating innovative products and solutions across various fields, from manufacturing to services.
These efforts have strongly propelled the national digital transformation process, enhanced growth quality, and improved the living standards of the people, he stressed.
The Party General Secretary also candidly pointed out several limitations that need to be addressed to ensure the robust development of digital technology and national digital enterprises.
According to the leader, the growth of digital technology remains uneven across regions, with certain localities facing significant challenges in adopting and implementing technology, leading to a substantial gap in access to and utilization of digital technology.
Digital infrastructure also presents a major challenge, as many areas have not yet received adequate investment in modern technology, hindering nationwide connectivity and integration.
In the context of globalization and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, To Lam emphasized that digital technology is affirming its pivotal role as a primary driver for socio-economic development.
Digital transformation is not merely an inevitable trend but an urgent requirement for Vietnam to bridge the development gap with the region and the world, he said.
Moreover, digital transformation represents a long-term strategic approach, enhancing national competitiveness and solidifying Vietnam’s position on the global economic map.
Achieving these objectives, however, requires strong commitment from the Government, active support from businesses, and active participation from workers and citizens alike, he stressed.
The General Secretary underscored the need to formulate policies to attract high-tech talents, create appealing work environments, and support scientific research and innovation. These measures aim to enhance domestic capabilities and foster the development of world-class digital technology enterprises.
He advocated for the robust development of a digital technology ecosystem through close cooperation among businesses, universities, research institutes, and support organizations.
Gradually, Vietnam should establish and expand key digital economy sectors, such as the digital government, digital economy, and digital society, he said.
He encouraged creating conditions for digital technology companies to develop solutions that can be applied to state governance, improve the quality of public services, promote electronic transactions, and enhance public access to information technology.
The General Secretary proposed raising Vietnam’s global competitiveness, with the goal of becoming one of the top three Southeast Asian nations in digital technology research and development by 2030. He envisioned creating at least five major digital technology companies capable of competing internationally by the time.
In his opinions, each digital technology enterprise must set ambitious development goals and continually enhance both the quantity and quality of its workforce. Strengthening partnerships with leading global technology organizations and businesses, attracting research and production entities to Vietnam, and integrating Vietnamese businesses into global value chains are crucial. In addition, fostering the internationalization of Vietnamese digital products is vital for expanding their presence in global markets.
Vietnamese digital technology enterprises must demonstrate greater unity, determination, and ambition to carry out digital transformation, considering it not only an opportunity but also a responsibility to contribute to realizing the ambitious development goals, the top leader stressed.
He encouraged businesses to focus on developing groundbreaking products and services that create real value, serving the interests of the people and the economy, and meeting the demands of both domestic and international markets.
Leveraging strengths in intelligence, human resources, and entrepreneurial spirit, along with the Vietnamese ethos of resilience and innovation, will be key to propelling the nation forward in the new era of national advancement, he affirmed.
He requested that the Ministry of Information and Communications, as the leading state management authority for the digital technology industry, address existing shortcomings and work closely with other ministries, sectors, and localities to craft effective policies, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and improve digital infrastructure.
He asked the ministry to focus on enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s digital technology industry by prioritizing the training of high-quality human resources, encouraging research and development, and building a sustainable technology ecosystem, laying the foundation for the continued growth and global competitiveness of the industry.
