Party leader To Lam attends 80th anniversary of agriculture and environment sector

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam attended and delivered a speech at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 12 marking 80 years of the agriculture and environment sector (1945–2025).

The ceremony was attended by many other senior Party and State officials and leaders of various ministries, agencies, and localities.

The sector also held the First National Emulation Congress and received the First-Class Labour Order, in recognition of its contributions to national development.

Over the past eight decades, the agriculture and environment sector has played a strategic role in ensuring national food security, supporting the livelihoods of tens of millions of farmers, protecting natural resources, biodiversity, and ecological balance, and contributing to political stability, social welfare, and environmental protection.

The sector has become a pillar of the national economy, transforming Vietnam from a country once facing food shortages into one of the world’s leading agricultural exporters.

The year 2025 marks a historic milestone as the 15th National Assembly approved the merger of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, forming the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, effective on March 1, 2025. This strategic move aims to better manage, utilise, and develop national resources to meet the demands of rapid and sustainable development in the new era.

Following the merger, the ministry has quickly streamlined its organisation and stabilised its operations, ensuring efficiency and smooth functionality. As a result, the sector’s value-added growth rate during 2020–2025 reached 3.12% per year, exceeding the set target.

In 2024, the export value of agro-forestry-fishery products reached a record US$62.5 billion, up nearly 19% compared to 2023, marking the highest increase in two decades, with 11 product categories exceeding US$1 billion each, including 7 exceeding US$3 billion each.
