Party chief To Lam attends Great National Unity Festival in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam attended the 2025 Great National Unity Festival in Thuong Cat ward, Hanoi, on the evening of November 14.
Thuong Cat ward lies in the northwest of the capital, covering 14.77 square kilometers, with 18 residential groups, more than 6,400 households and over 25,500 residents. In recent years, the ward has been undergoing rapid urbanisation, shifting from traditional agricultural production to the development of handicraft village products, services, commerce, and urban economic activities.
Despite major changes in living space and production methods, local people have preserved their traditions of unity, affection, and mutual support, enduring values that form part of Hanoi’s cultural identity.
Since July 1, 2025, when the city implemented the two-tier urban government model and reorganised administrative units, the Party Committee and political system of the ward quickly stabilised their organisational structure, strengthened their institutions, and proactively carried out political, socio-economic development tasks.
The ward successfully held its first Party Congress, the Fatherland Front Congress, and congresses of mass organisations for the 2025–2030 term. It also accelerated site clearance for major projects, including the Hanoi Biotechnology High-Tech Park and the Thuong Cat Bridge and its connecting roads, while addressing practical difficulties and ensuring social welfare.
Speaking with local residents, the General Secretary stressed that great national unity grows from simple, familiar values like trust, compassion and mutual respect. When people trust each other and put national interests first, differences narrow, challenges become opportunities and problems find solutions.
To bring this spirit into daily life in measurable ways, the General Secretary stressed that all policies must be rooted in the real needs of the people, shaped through their participation, oversight, and enjoyment. He underscored the importance of openness, transparency, and active dialogue, where authorities listen and adjust in a timely manner, and where public satisfaction becomes the benchmark of success. He called for strict adherence to the rule of law and unwavering efforts in combating corruption, wastefulness, and negative practices, noting that there must be no forbidden zones and no exceptions.
The General Secretary highlighted the need for a streamlined and effective administrative apparatus, with smooth coordination between the three levels of government and close linkage between the two local tiers. He emphasised digital transformation, green transition, administrative reform, and job creation as pathways to ensure peace, prosperity, and happiness for society.
According to the top leader, reorganising administrative units must go hand in hand with downsizing staff, simplifying procedures, and digitizing public services so that citizens and businesses truly become the centre and beneficiaries of governance. Where people find more convenience and lower social costs, unity and consensus will naturally grow.
He also underscored the importance of unlocking resources for development by clearing legal obstacles, upgrading strategic infrastructure, and building a high-quality workforce, while accompanying businesses in a spirit of shared determination and shared benefit. Social security, culture, and human development must be prioritized, including sustainable poverty reduction, healthcare, education, housing, and employment, along with care for vulnerable groups and disadvantaged regions. A healthy cultural environment should be nurtured to preserve identity and promote compassion within each community.
The General Secretary affirmed the role of the Fatherland Front in uniting the people, enhancing supervision and social criticism, and strengthening ties with overseas Vietnamese communities and international friends through people-to-people diplomacy, as well as cultural, sports, tourism, and educational exchanges. These connections, he noted, help spread the nation’s humane values and long-standing tradition of unity.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam called on all compatriots, comrades, soldiers, and the overseas Vietnamese community to continue upholding and fostering the great unity of the entire nation. He urged everyone to translate this spirit into action, from families and residential groups to factories, fields, classrooms, hospitals, the seas, and even the digital space, all for the beloved homeland of Vietnam, for the happiness of the people, and for the 2030 goals and the 2045 national aspiration.
