Newly-elected National Assembly to convene first sitting in July

VOV.VN - The 15th National Assembly (NA) is set to hold its first session on July 20 after 500 NA deputies are elected in a national election in May, announced an NA official on April 27.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is expected to attend and deliver a speech at the session which is due to last 11 days, said Bui Van Cuong, General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office at the 55th session of the NA Standing Committee.

The NA will examine reports on the results of the election of deputies to the 15th legislature and local People’s Councils, as well as voter opinions and hopes on the new legislative body.

Most importantly, the new deputies will elect the NA Chairman, Vice Chairmen, NA Standing Committee members, NA General Secretary, and heads of NA Committees.

They will also elect the State President, Vice State President, Prime Minister, Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court and Head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.   

They will decide on the organizational structure of the Cabinet and approve the list of newly-appointed Deputy Prime Ministers and other Cabinet members.

Vietnamese people will go to the polls on May 23 to elect deputies to the 15th National Assembly and local People’s Councils for 2021-2026.
