National Assembly pledges to support Government in fulfilling development goals for 2025
VOV.VN - The National Assembly will accompany the government, agencies, and organizations within the political system in striving to achieve the highest possible socio-economic development goals for 2025, top legislator Tran Thanh Man said at the closing ceremony of the year-end session in Hanoi on November 30.
The National Assembly has recognized and highly appreciated the determination, continuous efforts, and effective innovations in the leadership and management of the government, as well as the proactive involvement of local authorities, he said.
Despite the many challenges the country faced, including unforeseen events such as natural disasters and storms, the socio-economic development tasks for 2024 have been largely completed, he summarized.
In a report presented by the Government at the National Assembly at the end of October, Vietnam was projected to meet or exceed 14 out of 15 targets set for 2024. Notably, the GDP growth for the first nine months reached 6.82%, and it was estimated that the full-year growth would be around 6.8% - 7%, surpassing the National Assembly’s 6% - 6.5% target, placing Vietnam among the countries with the highest growth rates in the region and globally.
The National Assembly also approved a resolution on several key targets set for 2025, including a projected GDP growth rate of around 6.5-7%, with efforts to achieve 7-7.5%.
Among other things, Man said the National Assembly considered and decided on a significant workload, addressing many complex and pressing issues across various sectors. It passed 18 bills, including those of great concern to businesses and the public, such as the amended Law on Trade Union, the amended Law on Health Insurance, the Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting, the amended Law on Value Added Tax.
It also approved investment policies for the National Target Program for Cultural Development for 2025-2035, the National Target Program for Drug Prevention and Control until 2030, the North-South high-speed railway project, and the decision to restart the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.
In addition, he said personnel work was carried out in a strict and compliant manner during the National Assembly’s sitting. Deputies elected the state President, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the General Secretary of the National Assembly; and approved the Government’s appointment of the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Transport; as well as the Judges of the Supreme People’s Court.
To implement instructions of the Party General Secretary regarding organizational restructure, Man said the National Assembly and its related bodies will continue to innovate strongly.
They will urgently reorganize and streamline the structure of the apparatus, improve operational efficiency and effectiveness, and focus on restructuring the staff team with sufficient qualities and capabilities to meet the tasks at hand, he affirmed.
The year-end session in Hanoi took place from October 21 to November 30, with a break between two phases. Phase I started from October 21 to November 13, and Phase II from November 20 to November 30.
