Vietnamese State President begins Cambodia visit
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc left Hanoi for Phnom Penh on December 21, beginning a two-day official visit to Cambodia at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.
Phuc is being accompanied by a number of ministers, including Minister of Public Security To Lam, Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, as well as leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang, Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Kien Giang and Long An provinces.
This is the first visit to Cambodia by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and by the first high-ranking Vietnamese leader in the past two years since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The visit aims to implement the Vietnamese Party’s foreign policy adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, as well as to show respect and develop relations with neighboring countries, including Cambodia.
The trip takes place at a time when the traditional friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia are prospering. Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, both countries have maintained regular high-level contact and exchanges virtually.
This State-level to Cambodia by President Phuc marks the start of a series of activities to celebrate the Friendship Year 2022 and 55 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2022.
It gives the two countries’ leaders the chance to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time, and to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
