Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan safe after blast targeting diplomatic convoy
VOV.VN - Foreign diplomats in Pakistan, including the Vietnamese ambassador, have been safe following a blast targeting a diplomatic convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The convoy, which included police escort vehicles and cars of ambassadors from 12 countries, was targeted by an improvised explosive device, while they were en route to attend a tourism development forum in the province on September 22.
The area borders Afghanistan and is a base for militant groups, including the Pakistani Taliban.
The roadside blast killed a policeman and injured four others, said Pakistan authorities, adding all foreign diplomats stayed safe and returned to Islamabad.
“Vietnam strongly condemns the attack and expresses deep condolences to the families of the victims,” Pham Thu Hang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 26.
“We urge relevant Pakistani authorities to ensure the security and safety of diplomatic missions and foreign communities, including Vietnamese citizens, living, studying, and working in the country,” stated the spokesperson.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan immediately condemned the attack.
