Vietnam – US partnership developing positively: officials

VOV.VN - The comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the United States has developed substantially in recent times, with economy - trade – investment cooperation serving as a key pillar in bilateral relations.

The view was shared by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper during their meeting in Hanoi on March 28.

They noted that two-way trade between the two countries hit US$123 billion last year, making the United States Vietnam’s first export market with a turnover of more than US$100 billion. Vietnam also became the eighth largest trading partner of the United States.

In addition, bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense - security, education - training, science - technology, energy transition and climate change response has also yielded substantive results.

Both host and guest were of the view that cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war is a bright spot in bilateral relations, making an important contribution to post-war reconciliation, building trust between the two countries, and opening up new cooperation opportunities in other important fields.

The two sides have also cooperated more effectively within the framework of multilateral institutions, as well as in addressing regional and international challenges.

Both sides emphasized the importance of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership this year and agreed to work closely to prepare the best for the exchange of delegations at all levels in the coming time.
