Vietnam treasures relations with Cambodia, says NA leader

VOV.VN - Vietnam is committed to consolidate the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive, long-term and sustainable cooperation with Cambodia, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.

Paying a courtesy visit to the King in Phnom Penh on November 19, Hue said the Vietnamese leaders and people are always grateful to the profound sentiments and invaluable support that late King Sihanouk, King Sihamoni and generations of Cambodian leaders and people have provided for the Vietnamese people during the past struggle for national liberation as well as the current national construction and development.

He spoke highly of Cambodia’s achievements under the rule of King Sihamoni, and wished the King would continue supporting the strong, substantive and effective development of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Sihamoni, for his part, said high-ranking Cambodian leaders, together with the Vietnamese leaders, continue intensifying the fraternal friendship and solidarity in all areas in the interests of the two countries and their people, as well as for the sake of peace, stability and development in the world.

The King affirmed he would work with Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to further foster bilateral friendship and solidarity.

The same day, Hue met with Senate President Samdech Say Chhum who spoke highly of Vietnam’s great achievements in recent years, and expressed his belief under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam would continue to develop prosperously and fulfill the goal of becoming a developed and high-income economy by 2045.

Meanwhile, Hue Hue congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the recent 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings, and believed Cambodia would successfully host the upcoming 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43), contributing to building a peaceful, stable and prosperous ASEAN Community.

He also congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing local elections in June 2022 and expected it would successfully hold the general elections in 2023.

The two leaders expressed their belief the recent reciprocal visits by the two countries’ senior leaders would give fresh impetus to promoting the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and the two legislative bodies.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in all channels, and continue to exchange information and professional experience in the field of legislation among the specialized committees of the two legislative bodies.
