Vietnam supports One-China policy, says FM spokesperson

VOV.VN - A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Ministry of Vietnam on August 3 reiterated Vietnam’s support for the One-China policy and called on relevant parties to exercise restraint across the Taiwan Strait.

Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang was responding to reporters’ questions about the current situation of the Taiwan Strait following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stopover in Taiwan on August 2 during her Asia tour.

Vietnam persistently implements the ‘One China’ policy and wants relevant parties to exercise restraint, not to escalate the situation in the Taiwan Strait, and actively contribute to maintaining peace and stability, promoting cooperation and development in the region and the wider world, Hang said.

After landing in Taiwan on August 2 evening, Pelosi delivered a short speech that immediately sparked Chinese reactions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Pelosi’s trip violated the ‘One-China’ policy, maliciously infringed on China's sovereignty and blatantly engaged in political provocations.
