Vietnam, Slovakia discuss future cooperation opportunities

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Nguyen Tuan on April 1 received a delegation of the Slovak National Assembly to discuss future economic cooperation between the two countries.

Tuan briefed Slovak MPs on joint investment projects between the two countries and expressed his hope that the National Assembly, Government and relevant agencies of Slovakia will continue to support cooperation projects between the two countries.

He suggested that the Slovak National Assembly soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement between the European Union and Vietnam (EVIPA) to enhance investment and trade ties between the two sides, as well as between Vietnam and Slovakia.

For his part, Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Slovak National Assembly Peter Kremsky spoke highly of Vietnam’s development potential, noting Vietnam has an important role in the region and boasts many strengths such as rich natural resources, abundant human resources and skilled labor force.

However, he said bilateral cooperation is not commensurate with the potential of the two countries.

Kremsky informed Ambassador Tuan on Slovakia’s strengths, including good infrastructure and energy development. The country also has attractive investment attraction policies and is the gateway to the European Union a market of approximately 500 million consumers…

Slovakia has a wealth of experience in consulting, civil engineering and operation of thermal, hydro- and nuclear power plants, and it wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in these fields, he said.

The senior Slovak MP also spoke of the possibility of developing electric vehicle market in Europe, following a recent decision by Vietnamese carmaker VinFast to pour US$4 billion into a factory in the United States.

VinFast may consider choosing Slovakia as the next investment location as Slovakia is an automobile manufacturing hub in Europe which hosts major brands such as Volkswagen and KIA and present favourable conditions for production and supply to the European market, he said.

Kremsky pledged to work closely with relevant Slovak agencies to support Vietnamese businesses if they decide to choose Slovakia as a destination.
