Vietnam, San Marino boost all-round cooperation

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications of San Marino have signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing political consultations between the two ministries.

Signatories to the MoU were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Le Thi Thu Hang, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications of San Marino Luca Beccari.

The signing ceremony was held at the San Marino Embassy in Rome, Italy, on March 29.

Both sides affirmed that the signing of the document marks a milestone in the Vietnam - San Marino relations, giving fresh impetus to fostering the friendship between the two countries in the coming time.

During their earlier working session, Hang and Beccari highly appreciated the positive progress in socio-economic recovery after COVID-19 in each country and exchanged views on a number of measures to strengthen bilateral relations.

They agreed to promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, and organize trade, investment and tourism promotion events to increase business connectivity, especially in  the fields of services, tourism, and heritage conservation, among others.

Hang briefed Beccari on Vietnam’s recent development achievements, including its impressive GDP growth of 8.02% last year, and affirmed Vietnam wishes to strengthen all-round cooperation with San Marino.  

Beccari for his part hailed Vietnam’s development potential and affirmed that San Marino is willing to share experiences and support Vietnam in meeting the high standards of the European Union and the international community in terms of trade and investment.

San Marino is ready to sign cooperation agreements in potential fields such as culture and tourism with Vietnam, said Beccari, adding, his country welcomes Vietnamese students to come and study under an exchange programme.

Sharing views on regional and international issues of common concern, the two sides affirmed to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral and international forums including the United Nations and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world, including maritime security, in compliance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Vietnam and San Marino signed an agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2007 and an agreement on double tax avoidance in 2013.
