Vietnam, Nepal to foster parliamentary ties

VOV.VN - The legislatures of Vietnam and Nepal should further promote bilateral cooperation and exchange information on activities of their respective parliaments.

The agreement was reached at a meeting in Phnom Penh on November 22, between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his Nepalese counterpart Ganesh Prasad Timilsina who were in Cambodia for the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43)

Hue noted that the traditional friendship between the two countries is an important prerequisite for them to expand cooperation to various fields through different channels, including the parliamentary channel.

The Vietnamese leader said the two-way trade value between Vietnam and Nepal remains modest compared to each country’s potential and strength, and he suggested establishing a joint economic-trade committee to improve economic partnership.

The NA Chairman said Vietnam and Nepal should create favourable conditions for their businesses to seek investment and business cooperation opportunities, and that the two countries have potential for cooperation in agriculture, telecommunication, culture and tourism.

Vietnam is considering Nepal’s proposal regarding the opening of a direct air service between the two countries, Hue told the Nepalese legislator.

He took the occasion to invite the Nepalese National Assembly Chairman to visit Vietnam.

The two leaders said that both Vietnam and Nepal have a long history of development as well as an ever-growing friendly relationship. They hoped the two countries would promote cooperation in many of their potential fields in the coming time.
