Vietnam, India promote Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 10 had phone talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, examining ways of further promoting the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in future.

Both sides agreed to maintain contact and visit exchanges in flexible forms and coordinate closely in celebrating 50 years of their diplomacy in 2022. They also pledged to work closely together and support each other in repelling the COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Indian Government support Vietnam in accessing vaccine sources in various forms and as quickly as possible, and at the same time cooperate in transferring vaccine production technology to Vietnam.

He also requested that India create conditions for agencies of both countries to deliver Indian vaccines to Vietnam.

PM Narendra Modi welcomed PM Chinh’s proposals and expressed his willingness to work closely with Vietnam in this field.

The two leaders agreed to continue to shore up consultation and dialogue mechanisms, expand cooperation in the defense industry, and coordinate in UN peacekeeping activities, while strengthening cooperation in addressing traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

They are adamant that a greater effort should be made to soon meet the two-way trade turnover target of US$15 billion annually through strengthening trade promotion, minimizing technical barriers, and limiting trade remedy measures against import-export activities of the two countries, especially agricultural products of Vietnam.

PM Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Indian businesses increase investment in Vietnam in such areas as processing technology, manufacturing, automobile supporting industry, information and communication technology, and renewable energy among others.

Both sides vowed to strengthen each other’s support and coordinate more closely at regional and international forums, especially at the United Nations when the two countries are both non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2021.

The two PMs underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight, as well as peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
