Vietnam expects to soon receive COVID-19 vaccine from US
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh on July 1 held a phone call with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to discuss the Vietnam-US relations and international issues of mutual concern.
Both sides agreed that the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the US has constantly developed strongly in all fields, brining practical benefits to the two countries’ people and actively contributing to maintaining stability and cooperation for mutual development in the region and the rest of the world.
They also agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in such areas as settlement of war aftermath, science and technology, education and response to climate change.
Deputy PM Minh thanked the US for distributing its COVID-19 vaccine to other countries including Vietnam through the United Nations run COVAX Facility and hopes Vietnam would soon receive the vaccine.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan hailed Vietnam’s increasingly important role in the region and the world, and affirmed that the US continues to attach importance to the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.
The US will work closely with Vietnam to strengthen economic - trade - investment relations to bring benefits to businesses and people of the two countries, said Sullivan.
He voiced the US’s commitment to support Vietnam and other countries to soon receive vaccines to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination at international forums such as the United Nations Security Council to handle common challenges.
They also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including supporting ASEAN’s central role, freedom of navigation, and settling disputes in the East Sea on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
