Vietnam expects Finland will soon ratify EVIPA

VOV.VN - While receiving outgoing Finnish ambassador to Vietnam Kari Kahiluoto on July 15, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh suggested that Finland soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to benefit both sides.

He said both countries should work closely to bring into full play trade and investment opportunities from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which took effect from August 1, 2020.

He called on Finland to encourage its businesses to expand investment in Vietnam in potential fields such as high technology, telecommunications, renewable energy, and the environment.

The Deputy PM also suggested that Finland continue to support Vietnam in strengthening its comprehensive cooperation relationship with the EU, while voicing Vietnam’s commitment to act as a bridge for Finland to increase cooperation with ASEAN.

At the reception, Minh highly appreciated the ambassador’s positive contributions to enhancing the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries during his working term over the past three years, and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing relations with Finland.

He expressed his pleasure that the Vietnam-Finland relations have developed positively in many fields, especially in politics-diplomacy, trade, development cooperation, education and training.

The two sides have actively maintained visit exchanges and contacts at all levels, effectively cooperated and supported each other at regional and international forums.

They have also signed a framework agreement on Finnish-funded projects, formulating a framework for the implementation of projects using ODA and concessional loans provided by the Government of Finland, helping promote socio-economic development in Vietnam.
