Vietnam calls for international support to Lebanon

VOV.VN - A Vietnamese diplomat to the United Nations has called on the international community, donors and UN agencies to continue to support Lebanon in surviving the current crisis.

Special attention should be paid to the humanitarian situation of Palestinian and Syrian refugees in the country, said Nguyen Phuong Tra, Minister Councilor and deputy head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN at a UN Security Council debate on the situation in Lebanon on May 11.

She also called on all stakeholders to respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.

During the meeting, Tra expressed deep concern about the multifaceted crisis in Lebanon, which she said has seriously affected the living conditions of local people.

She urged Lebanese leaders and all stakeholders to overcome barriers, for the sake of their people, in order to form a government that is capable of carrying out necessary reforms.

According to UN Under Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, there has been no positive progress in Lebanon’s political process in recent times, while the local economy has been bogged down in recession, and the country’s sovereignty and territory has constantly been violated.
