Vietnam attends IAP Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in Hong Kong
VOV.VN - Deputy Prosecutor General Nguyen Duy Giang of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Procuracy attended the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) held in Hong Kong (China) on November 28-29 at the invitation of Paul Lam, the secretary for justice of Hong Kong.
The conference, themed “Effective Prosecution Service in Technological Age”, brought together around 140 representatives from about 30 countries and territories, highlighting the global commitment to combating cybercrime and technological offenses.
Delegates discussed various topics, including the modernization of tools for combating technological crimes, the decentralization challenges in the age of technology, while sharing experiences in prosecuting cybercrimes. They exchanged knowledge of handling digital evidence and the impact of technological advancements on criminal justice procedures.
Speaking at the event, Giang presented Vietnam’s central role in international criminal justice cooperation in accordance with the country’s Constitution and laws. He also acknowledged the support of prosecutorial agencies in resolving Vietnam’s criminal justice assistance requests and shared challenges in international legal cooperation.
He proposed solutions to enhance the effectiveness of mutual legal assistance, particularly in fighting transnational organized crime and cybercrimes.
As part of his working visit, Giang held talks with Secretary for Justice Paul Lam, where both parties expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Hong Kong across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, and tourism. They agreed that further strengthening legal and judicial cooperation would provide a solid legal foundation for socio-economic cooperation between the two sides.
Both sides agreed to explore negotiations for a criminal justice assistance agreement between Vietnam and Hong Kong to improve the effectiveness of efforts against cross-border, transnational crimes, cybercrime, and financial offenses. They also consented to boost cooperation in prosecutorial exchange, professional training, and enhance the capacity of Vietnamese prosecutors.
