Vietnam attaches importance to comprehensive partnership with Netherlands

VOV.VN - Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with the Netherlands in the overall good relationship with the European Union (EU), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told a Netherlands Minister on November 28.

Receiving Liesje Schreinemacher, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Chinh spoke highly of the positive developments in the Vietnam - Netherlands relations over the years, especially in the fields of politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, climate change adaptation, water management and sustainable agriculture.

The PM suggested that the two sides continue to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the strategic partnership on climate change adaptation and water management, and strategic cooperation on sustainable agriculture and food security - the pillar of the Vietnam-Netherlands Comprehensive Partnership. He expected the Netherlands would continue to support Vietnam in areas related to climate change adaptation, green and sustainable agricultural development, biodiversity protection, seaports, green economy and tourism.

The PM also proposed the Netherlands create more favourable conditions for key Vietnamese commodities such as agricultural and aquatic products, fruits, and electronics to make inroad into the Dutch and European markets. He expressed hope the Dutch parliament would soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to open up investment cooperation opportunities and diversify supply chains between the two countries, while expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of green transformation, digital transformation, and circular economy.

Minister Schreinemacher, for her part, highly valued Vietnam’s green economy and carbon neutrality commitments, affirming with its experience in dealing with sea level rise and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Netherlands is ready to share its experiences and mobilize resources to support Vietnam in this field.

She went on to say that more than 40 Dutch businesses are taking part in the 2022 Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE 2022) in Ho Chi Minh City, helping to create new cooperation opportunities for the Vietnam - Netherlands business community in particular and the Vietnam - EU business community in general, as well as increasing the participation of the private sector in promoting the implementation of Vietnam’s green economy transformation goals.

The Minister highly appreciated Vietnam’s favourable position in the region as well as its advantages in terms of market and labour force, thereby facilitating cooperation between businesses of the two countries in order to make effective use of the EU – Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA).
