Vietnam and Singapore vow to foster bilateral cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Singapore will effectively realize the agreements reached between the two Prime Ministers during their recent meetings in order to promote bilateral cooperation in a number of key areas.

The view was shared by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet and his Singaporean counterpart Albert Chua during the 15th political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries held in Hanoi on May 18.

The two diplomats noted that the Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Partnership is developing substantively with increased political trust.

Singapore has poured US$71.3 billion into 3,100 investment projects in Vietnam, ranking first among ASEAN countries and fourth among foreign investors in Vietnam. The Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) model has yielded positive results, with 14 VSIPs having been established so far in Vietnam.

Bilateral cooperation in other important fields such as national defense, security, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges has also been enhanced, contributing to strengthening mutual understanding.

The two sides agreed to increase high-level visit exchanges, and organize practical activities to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of their strategic partnership this year.

The two ministries will work closely to foster the implementation of the Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership, towards the goal of sustainable growth and net zero emissions by 2050, they said.

Viet appreciated VSIP Group signing an MoU on cooperation in developing smart and sustainable VSIPs with nine provinces and cities of Vietnam, considering this a concrete step towards realizing the outcome of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s February 2023 visit to Singapore.

He expressed hope the new-generation VSIPs would improve their operational efficiency, creating a new driving force for growth in both countries.

Albert for his part affirmed that Vietnam is Singapore’s important partner in the region.

Singapore is always ready to share experiences with Vietnam, and together with Vietnam, to promote cooperation in potential fields such as digital transformation, technology and green energy, smart city building, power generation, and food security, among others, towards green and sustainable development, he said.

The two sides agreed to maintain consultations and actively coordinate with other member countries to enhance ASEAN’s solidarity and centrality in addressing regional and global challenges.

Exchanging views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, the two Deputy Ministers agreed that multilateralism, equality in relations, balance of interests, and a harmonious approach between countries are the prerequisites for global peace and stability.

The two sides vowed to build the East Sea into a sea of peace, cooperation and development, and at the same time together with other ASEAN countries to strictly and fully implement the Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), while striving to soon achieve an effective, efficient and consistent Code of Conduct (COC) in the regional waters in accordance with international law, and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
