Vietnam and Mexico to deepen parliamentary cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Mexico will strengthen exchanges between their legislatures, share legislative experience and promote friendship parliamentarian groups to deepen ties between the two countries.
Closer links between lawmakers and specialised agencies of the two legislatures are expected to create additional channels for policy dialogue, experience sharing and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Tran Thanh Man, President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, General Secretary of the Mexican Labour Party, in Hanoi on August 17.
According to the top Vietnamese legislator, a notable development in parliamentary cooperation was the launch of the Mexico-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group, with lawmakers from the Mexican Labour Party playing a leading role.
The group would provide a favorable foundation for strengthening ties between the two legislative bodies and helping elevate Vietnam-Mexico relations to a new level, he said.
During the meeting, National Assembly leader Tran Thanh Man briefed his guest on Vietnam’s socio-economic development, the national development goals set by the 14th National Party Congress, and the results of the elections to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
He highlighted the role of Vietnam’s National Assembly in institutional reform, improving the legal system and creating a comprehensive legal framework to support the country’s development in the new period.
He noted that Vietnam-Mexico relations have maintained positive momentum across various areas, with economic, trade and investment cooperation remaining important pillars.
Vietnam attaches importance to Mexico’s role and position in Latin America and wishes to further develop substantive and effective friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, he assured his guest.
Mexico is currently one of Vietnam’s leading trading partners in Latin America. Stronger cooperation between the two legislatures is expected to complement existing channels of bilateral engagement and create favorable conditions for closer ties.
For his part, Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, General Secretary of the Mexican Labour Party, expressed admiration for Vietnam’s achievements during the Đổi mới (Renewal) process and affirmed that the Labour Party and he personally desire to strengthen and expand traditional friendship and cooperation between the two parties, legislatures and peoples.
He expressed confidence that Vietnam would achieve its strategic development goals in the new era.
Both host and guest also agreed to continue promoting exchanges and people-to-people activities between the two sides.
On the occasion, National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man asked Alberto Anaya Gutierrez to convey his invitation to the Presidents of Mexico’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies to visit Vietnam.
