Vietnam and China vow to boost cooperation efficiency

VOV.VN - Vietnam and China pledged to further consolidate political trust and improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation during phone talks on March 28 between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang.

Son again congratulated Qin on being elected Foreign Minister at the recent session of the National People’s Congress of China, and vowed to work closely with his Chinese counterpart to realize the common perceptions by the two countries’ top leaders.

Vietnam attaches great importance to the friendly, neighbourly and comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership with China, considering this a strategic choice and a top priority in its foreign policy, said Son.

Qin for his part also affirmed that China views relations with Vietnam as an important priority in its periphery diplomacy.

They both shared the view that the China visit late last year by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has given a strong impetus to the traditional friendship between the two Parties and the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of reciprocal visits to mark 15 years of the Vietnam – China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Partnership this year, in order to further consolidate political trust and promote the efficiency of mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of economy - trade – investment, while effectively implementing Chinese-funded projects in Vietnam.

Son suggested that the two sides take practical measures to balance trade, solve problems in a number of projects, promote road, rail, sea and air transport connectivity, and soon restore tourism cooperation in an effective and sustainable manner.

Meanwhile, Qin said Vietnam is an important partner for China in various fields, and expected the two sides would ramp up cooperation in economy - trade, investment, strategic connections, cultural exchanges, education and tourism, while closely coordinating in regional and international forums.

With regard to maritime issues, the two sides agreed to jointly maintain a peaceful and stable environment in the region.

Son suggested that the two sides respect international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), for each country’s development and positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world.
