US Undersecretary of State Bonnie Jenkins to visit Vietnam

VOV.VN - Ambassador Bonnie Denise Jenkins, under secretary of state for arms control and international security, will make a three-day visit to Vietnam on September 8-10.

Vietnam is one of Jenkins’ three destinations along with the Philippines and Singapore during her Southeast Asian tour from September 5-14, according to a press statement by the US Department of State.

Jenkins is scheduled to meet with US allies and partners to expand cooperation on global health security, counterproliferation, conventional weapons destruction, civil-nuclear partnership, export controls, strategic trade, and the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, all key elements of the US commitment to regional security in a free and open Indo-Pacific region, said the statement.

While staying in Vietnam, Jenkins will meet with senior officials and civil society partners in Hanoi to discuss aviation and border security, nuclear nonproliferation, global health security, peacekeeping capacity building, and cooperative efforts to further expand the meaningful participation of women in peacebuilding.

She will also travel to Quang Tri, a war-torn province in central Vietnam, where she is scheduled to visit sites exemplifying cooperation between the US and Vietnam to survey and clear legacy unexploded ordnance. She will observe unexploded ordnance survey and clearance, visit the Quang Tri Mine Action Center, and meet with women working in demining.
