US reiterates support for Vietnam’s climate change adaptation goals

VOV.VN - The United States will strengthen exchanges and promote cooperation with Vietnam in combating climate change in order to realize major goals set by the two countries’ leaders at the recent 26th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 26).

Visiting US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry was speaking at a meeting with Minister of Public Security To Lam in Hanoi on September 5.

Kerry noted that the US-Vietnam relationship is on track to reap success and that responding to climate change plays an important role in ensuring environmental security and energy security.

Receiving the US special envoy for climate, Minister To Lam affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam are keen on environmental protection and climate change response that have been translated into reality over the past years.

After the COP 26 summit, he said Vietnam has taken specific steps to urgently and drastically implement its commitments, especially the zero-net emissions goal by 2050.

He suggested that the US side strengthen the exchange of experience, technology transfer, and investment in clean energy projects in Vietnam to help it meet climate change adaptation goals.

Kerry has returned to Vietnam for a visit from September 2 to 6 to build consensus on critical actions to address the climate crisis.

He is expected to meet with government officials, civil society representatives, and business leaders to address the climate crisis and accelerate energy transition.
