UN supports Vietnam’s priority areas

VOV.VN - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres voiced the world governing body’s support for Vietnam’s priority areas, while meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh in New York on September 23.

He spoke highly of the country socio-economic development achievements as well as its active and responsible contributions to the common work of the United Nations over the years.

He assured that the UN would continue to pay attention to and support Vietnam’s prioritized development areas in the green, sustainable, and equitable transition process, especially in terms of financial accessibility. He suggested Vietnam, would strongly promote its role and, together with the international community, contribute to solving global problems.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized that Vietnam always strongly supports multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in global governance and coordination of efforts to address common challenges.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to working with member countries and UN leaders to advance important common agendas, from implementing the Sustainable Development Goals to joining peacekeeping missions in the regions of the world.

The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that Vietnam is actively implementing its commitments at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. He requested that the United Nations provide active support for the process of building a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh is in New York for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
