Top legislators of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia meet ahead of AIPA-45 meeting
VOV.VN - Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man, President of the National Assembly of Laos Saysomphone Phomvihane, and Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Cambodia Khuon Sudary held a working breakfast in the capital Vientiane on October 18 ahead of the opening of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45).
During the meeting, Man and Sudary congratulated Laos on its successful role as ASEAN Chair in 2024, expressing confidence that with its careful preparations, Laos would continue to succeed in its role as AIPA Chair in 2024, contributing to enhancing the country’s position and role regionally and globally.
Phomvihane appreciated the support and assistance from Vietnam and Cambodia, which helped Laos fulfill its responsibilities as ASEAN Chair and AIPA Chair in 2024.
The top legislators described the meeting as a good opportunity for the three parliaments to enhance cooperation more effectively amidst a complex and unpredictable regional and international situation. They expressed their respect for the solidarity and bond between the three countries, considering this an invaluable asset to be preserved and further promoted in the future.
The three leaders acknowledged positive developments in the tripartite cooperation across various fields, including in defense – security, economy-trade-investment, tourism, education-training, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
They affirmed that parliamentary cooperation plays a crucial role in enhancing relations, particularly in perfecting institutions, formulating policies, and supporting the governments in socio-economic development, alongside strengthening connections among the economies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
To contribute to the realization of the commitments made by the top leaders of the three countries, the top legislators agreed to enhance regular exchanges, closely coordinate in supervising and promoting the implementation of signed cooperation agreements, and boost exchanges and training for youth and young leaders to foster the future of cooperation among the three countries.
The three parties vowed to work closely to maintain a peaceful, stable, and friendly border among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
The three parliamentary leaders reaffirmed the significance and role of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle cooperation mechanism, which they said over the past 25 years has yielded substantial results for the development of each country and the three countries.
They agreed to continue fostering effective cooperation among the three countries in line with developmental needs in the new phase, while emphasizing trust, solidarity, and bond for the benefit of all three countries, and for peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
The three parties vowed to increase mutual support at regional and international forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Inter-parliamentary Union, Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, and the African Parliamentary Forum.
