State President receives Russian Court Chief Justice

VOV.VN - State President Vo Van Thuong received Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev, chief justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, in Hanoi on June 19.

Thuong affirmed Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation, considering it a top priority partner.

Vietnam wishes to further promote cooperation with Russia, meeting practical interests of the two peoples, for peace, stability and development in the region and the wider world, stressed the President.

He welcomed the fruitful cooperation between the two countries’ court sectors in recent times through maintaining visit exchanges, sharing stances about regional and global issues, evaluating cooperation results annually and supplementing new cooperation contents in a more practical and effective manner.

According to the president, the Vietnamese court sector plays a very important role in implementing a national strategy to build and perfect the law-governed socialist state in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045. Therefore, he said it is important to improve the operational efficiency of the court system.

Vietnam encourages international cooperation between the Vietnamese court sector, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the courts of other countries in order to share professional experience and improve the legal and judicial system, he said.

The President expressed his belief that the two countries’ courts will continue to strengthen cooperation, to actively contribute to the development of each country and to tighten the traditional relationship between the two nations.

Chief justice Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lebedev for his part forwarded Russian President Vladimir Putin’s letter to President Vo Van Thuong, saying Putin has highlighted the long-standing relationship with Vietnam as one of the priorities in Russia’s foreign policy.

The Russian Federation attaches importance to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, including priority fields in the 2022 – 2023 period, he said.

Amidst the current complicated international situation, he suggested that the two countries jointly increase cooperation in such fields as oil and gas, economy, investment, and agriculture, as well as cooperation between the two countries’ courts and judicial agencies.

He briefed his host on the operation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, and cooperation plans between the two court systems, noting the two sides agreed to increase visit exchanges, support capacity building, and improve knowledge and professional qualifications for judges and court officials at all levels.
